From Reciprocity to Harmony
Gender Justice and Tolerance in The Da’wa Discourse of Mubadalah.id
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the construction of Mubadalah.id's da'wah as an Islamic discourse space that promotes gender justice and harmony. Departing from the phenomenon of patriarchal narrative dominance in conventional da'wah, this study examines how mubadalah, the concept of reciprocity in male-female relations is used as an epistemic basis for building a more equitable da'wah paradigm. The research uses qualitative methods through digital content analysis of 35 articles published between 2023 and 2025 on Mubadalah.id. The data is analyzed using Pierre Bourdieu's framework on symbolic capital, Saba Mahmood's on female religious agency, and Azza M. Karam's on harmony. The results of the study show three main findings: first, mubadalah builds a narrative of reciprocity that revises gender interpretations dialogically; second, women are present as subjects of da'wah and owners of religious knowledge authority; third, Mubadalah.id's da'wah rejects polarization and builds tolerance based on empathy. This study concludes that Mubadalah.id shifts da'wah from hierarchical authority to participatory da'wah based on justice and compassion. The contribution of this study provides a theoretical and practical foundation for the development of Islamic da'wah that not only addresses the mind but also nurtures social harmony.
